Personally I find good performance art to be magical. There is something very special about someone drawing together tiny bits of their life and experience and creating a unique collage of thoughts and feelings to share with an audience.
I don't even know what the power of it is exactly, I just know that I have stood transfixed to people sitting and speaking, silent movements, utter stillness, musical virtuosity, solemnity, erratic freedom, and complete structure.
In every situation I find that it requires a real understanding and sensitivity to the energy of a room. A talented performance artist knows exactly how to control focus, and can draw attentian to themselves ort anything else on stage with force, and knows how to release that tension enough for people to draw their breaths and open their minds even more.
I have been studying the cello for a few years now and I love the experience of learning how to control an instrument and how to nuance notes and how to go from playing music to really sharing and expressive feelings through an instrument. I look forward to the day when I can really touch someone with my playing.
